Wind power. Chile has taken another step towards its target of generating 15% of its energy needs from wind power by 2011. President Michelle Bachelet this week inaugurated Chile's largest wind farm, constructed by the French company GDF Suez in the northern town of Ovalle in Coquimbo (Region IV). The energy minister, Marcelo Tokman, said that harvesting the Pacific winds would allow Chile to reduce its dependence on gas imports from Argentina. Non-conventional renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar and geothermal energy, could make up 40% of Chile's energy matrix by 2025.
