Chile will carry out its sixth annual military exercise - “Salitre" -
in Antofagasta between 19 and 30 October. It will be a multinational air combat
training exercise, during which Chilean F-16 fighter pilots will engage fighters
from Argentina, Brazil, France and the US. Bolivia will send observers. Peru
will not. The Peruvian government objected to the scenario - a hypothetical
invasion of Chile by a country from the north in contravention of international
treaties. The Chilean air force placated Peru by changing this fictitious
scenario after “talks" with the US, but relations remain volatile.End of preview - This article contains approximately 418 words.
