ARGENTINA |
Bolivian gas. Argentina is pushing for the modification of a natural gas accord signed with Bolivia in 2006. The country's ambassador in La Paz, Horacio Macedo, told the local daily La Razón this week that Argentina needed to know what volume of gas it was actually going to receive from Bolivia in order to justify the completion of the Gasoducto al Noreste Argentino (GNEA) envisaged in the accord. Bolivia promised to supply 7m cubic metres of gas per day under the 2006 accord until the GNEA came on-stream (this was estimated as 2011) when this would jump to up to 27m cmd. This is highly optimistic as Bolivia has never managed to satisfy the demand for 7m cmd (supplying, irregularly, between 2m cmd and 5m cmd) since the contract was signed.
