BRAZIL | Police ‘extermination units’. Julio Cesar Fernandes Neves, ombudsman of the São Paulo military police (PM), said on 15 September that video images taken a week earlier of PM officers shooting dead two suspected robbers in the Butantã district of the state capital, and the recent chacinas (‘slaughters’) that claimed 19 lives in the Osasco and Barueri districts of the Greater São Paulo were evidence of the existence of ‘extermination groups’ within the force.
