Biden meets Macri in Davos

Argentina: On 21 January Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri, met US Vice-President Joe Biden at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. This was Macri’s first meeting with such a high ranking US official since he assumed office on 10 December 2015. The two reportedly discussed strengthening bilateral relations and opportunities for trade, defence and security, technology and educational exchanges. With Macri’s recent efforts to reintegrate Argentina into the global economy and attract foreign investment, the two leaders promised to deepen relations in this respect. The pair also touched on issues such as climate change and Argentina’s role in increasing renewable energy development and the need to increase foreign investment in Argentina’s energy sector. Vice-President Biden offered the US’s help in Argentina’s fight against drug trafficking, which Macri has said is one of his government’s main priorities.
