BRAZIL: Lula faces another wrongdoing scandal


President Lula da Silva is confronted with another wrongdoing scandal. This time it is the turn of Romeu Tuma Junior, justice secretary, who has been implicated with a notorious Chinese-Brazilian contrabandist, Lee Kwok Kwen. Despite strong evidence uncovered by the federal police of Tuma Junior's illegal links to Lee, Lula has failed to sack the justice secretary for fear of offending his father, Senator Romeu Tuma, whose Partido Trabalhista Brasileiro (PTB) Lula wants to support the candidacy of Dilma Rousseff for president. He did finally decide to make Romeu Tuma Junior take a leave of absence for 30 days, however, to determine whether he should be formally investigated or not.
