US President Barack Obama will entertain Mexico's President Felipe Calderón
Hinojosa to a state dinner at the White House on 19 May. The US has been keen to
emphasise that the dinner will be the first that the Obamas have given for a
foreign head of state. The occasion is likely to be tense. Mexico is upset by
the recent anti-immigrant law passed in Arizona, and does not believe that
President Obama can deliver on his promise of a comprehensive reform of US
immigration before this year's mid-term elections. The US, for its part, is
concerned that the war on organised crime, declared by President Calderón when
he took office on 1 December 2006, has become a stalemate. End of preview - This article contains approximately 1245 words.
