REGION: EU-Centam deal signed and sealed

The European Union (EU) signed its first ever bloc-to-bloc regional trade and cooperation 'Association Agreement' with Central America last week, after four years in the pipeline. While the Central American leaders point to various EU concessions in relation to sensitive sectors such as dairy as evidence of success, the final deal has failed to reassure regional civil society groups and small agricultural producers, who complain that it has not addressed the asymmetries between the two trading blocs.
