Support for President Lula da Silva's chosen successor, Dilma
Rousseff, has risen in the opinion polls and she is now neck-and-neck with her
main rival, the opposition former governor of São Paulo, José Serra. But a
public prosecutor warned this week that Rousseff could face a legal impediment
to her candidacy or, if elected, to take office because of Lula's continual
misuse of his position to campaign for her illegally. The ruling Partido dos
Trabalhadores (PT), meanwhile, has suggested Lula's detractors are prepared to
