PERU: An inscrutable meeting

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski held a one-hour meeting with the leader of the main opposition Fuerza Popular (FP), Keiko Fujimori, at the residence of the Catholic Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, on 19 December. It was the first time Kuczynski and Fujimori had met in six months. Afterwards, they both made nice but anodyne comments about the encounter (according to Kuczynski they had a “useful, honest and constructive” dialogue). But the reality is that most Peruvians are unsure whether the country’s two most prominent political leaders will be able to work together or not.
