MEXICO | China. Patricia Espinosa, the foreign minister, concluded her trip to China on 11 October with a meeting with the Chinese foreign minister, Yang Jiechi. The purpose of the visit was to try to ensure that the UN's Climate Change summit in Cancún in December achieves more than the previous effort in Copenhagen in 2009. The Cancún summit is scheduled to run from 29 November to 10 December. Espinosa had a lengthy meeting with China's chief negotiator, Xie Zhenhua, and also attended the last of the UN's preparatory meetings in Tianjin, which was attended by 3,100 delegates from 177 countries. Environmentalists said that the Tianjin meeting was hugely disappointing with little progress on a key issue, Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (known as REDD+).
