Peru: The transport & communications ministry has announced that it is studying alternative ways to provide fast internet connection to the country’s 16 provincial capitals that currently lack it. A ministerial statement noted that currently 180 of the country’s 196 provincial capitals have fibre optic broadband internet connections, but that it has not been possible to extend it to the remaining 16 due to their remote and inaccessible location in the country’s Amazonian areas, and officials are now studying whether they can be connected to the internet via wireless microwave networks or via satellites.
