* Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo has submitted to the federal congress a report outlining the main objectives that the Mexican government will seek to attain in the upcoming renegotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta). Guajardo has said that Mexico’s four main objectives will be: improving the competitiveness of the Nafta member countries; promoting more inclusive and responsible trade within Nafta; the updating of the agreement to bring it in line with modern international trade deals; and seeking to offer greater certainty for exporters as well as investors. Guajardo also said that Mexico will negotiate under the guiding principles that trade within Nafta must remain tariff-free, tripartite, and be expansive.
