Brazil: Stand and deliver
There is an escalating trend across Latin America of highway robbery. It is plaguing many countries in the region, but none more so than Brazil, which is predicted to lose US$1.3bn to cargo theft this year alone. Cash has also been stolen. This growing problem was one of the factors which precipitated the deployment earlier this year of military troops to the city of Rio de Janeiro to help quell rising criminality.
