In brief: Chile

Chile: The national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures which show that in August the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.2%, bringing the accumulated inflation rate this year to 1.6% and the year-on-year rate to 1.9%. According to the most recent report by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac), headline inflation (as well as core inflation) fell significantly in Chile from 4.4% in 2015 to 2.7% in 2016 (year-on-year in December), as a result of lower cost pressures and a wider demand gap owing to the slowdown in domestic economic demand.
