* The tourism ministry (MTur) and the official tourism agency, Embratur, have announced that they will invest R$25m (US$7.91m) to attract more visitors to the city of Rio de Janeiro. The money will go towards organising cultural events such as the Rio Carnival (whose funds had been cut last year), New Year, and the music festival Rock in Rio. The iconic city of Rio de Janeiro appears to be losing some of its international appeal amid rising levels of insecurity and budget cuts which have affected the provision of public services.
