COLOMBIA: In trade limbo

Colombia's relations with the US are coming under increasing strain. The US House of Representatives failed to discuss the extension of the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (Atpdea), which expired on 12 February, leaving Colombian exporters in limbo. This has compounded frustration in Bogotá with the failure of the US Congress to ratify the bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) signed in 2006, citing labour violence and human rights violations in Colombia as its main objections.
