CHILE: Concertación scents blood

Scandals have a way of uniting the opposition. The left-wing Concertación has struggled to adapt to life in opposition, still less land any blows on President Sebastián Piñera. It now has an opportunity - and seems determined to seize it. Piñera has managed to avoid scandals within the ruling Coalición por el Cambio but he faces one just a few weeks before he completes his first year in office. It involves Jacqueline van Rysselberghe, a big hitter in the right-wing Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI), the senior partner in Piñera's coalition.
