Argentina began this week with rumours of an “eternal Cristina",
triggered by a comment made by national deputy Diana Conti to a local radio
station in Rosario, Santa Fe. “The ultra-K sectors to which I belong wish for a
constitutional reform, because we wish for an eternal [President] Cristina
[Fernández]", Conti said on 28 February. However, during her annual

1 March, President Fernández unequivocally denied having any such intentions
(see sidebar) and questioned the widely held assumption that she will
be a presidential candidate in the upcoming 23 October general election;
nonetheless, her speech did have a strong electoral overtone.End of preview - This article contains approximately 1252 words.
