There is no money for any more bottles. This enigmatic comment was made by the newly elected presidential candidate of the main opposition Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), Hipólito Mejía, whose campaign slogan ahead of the May 2012 presidential contest is “Llegó Papá" (“Dad has arrived"). Mejía criticised President Leonel Fernández for a speech announcing a series of austerity measures in response to rising fuel prices. He said Fernández should start by cutting the numerous sinecures (“botellas") he had handed out during his mandate. The word “botella" refers to the bottle of cold water given to sports players by employees who have no official duties but under the pretext of supplying cold water for players pay nothing to enter and watch a game.
