It is underway. There had been a noticeable lull in activity in
Ecuador in recent weeks, as the government of President Rafael Correa and the
disparate political opposition prepare for a major showdown at the polls on 7
May. But, the campaign ahead of the referendum on constitutional reform
officially began on 26 March, and for the next five weeks 53 organisations will
seek to “inform", or in most cases “persuade", voters to support or reject it:
24 organisations are supporting the 'yes' vote, 17 the 'no' vote and 12 are
