Bolivia: Bolivia’s state-owned oil company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) has announced the discovery of a new gas reserve in the Los Monos-X12 field in the municipality of Villa Montes, Tarija department. According to a 19 April press release by the state news agency, Abi, the new reserve will produce 20m cubic feet of gas per day. President Evo Morales announced plans to establish two new wells in this field which will each produce 10m cubic feet per day: Arena Icla, which will be 1,668m deep, and Arena Santa Rosa, which will have a depth of 2,645m. Hydrocarbons Minister Luis Alberto Sánchez told reporters that from 2018 to 2025, the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) government will invest a further US$4bn in Tarija’s energy sector.
