Bogotá mayor suspended. The mayor of Bogotá, Samuel Moreno, has been suspended by the public prosecutor for three months while probes into irregularities in the award of three public works contracts continue. The leadership committee of the left-wing Polo Democrático Alternativo, to which Moreno belongs, called on him to resign for bringing the party into disrepute. This is a damage limitation exercise for the PDA, which will be acutely aware that its chances of hanging on to Bogotá in regional and municipal elections in October are now slim. Moreno denies all wrongdoing. President Juan Manuel Santos appointed the education minister, María Fernanda Campo, to the post in an interim capacity while the PDA produces a list of possible temporary replacements, from which Santos will choose.
