In brief: Brazil

* Brazil's automobile manufacturers' association (Anfavea) has reported that 1.434m vehicles were produced in the first half of 2018, up 13.6% on the same period in 2017 and the best result for the period since 2014. In June, 256,300 vehicles were produced, up 20.7% from May when Brazil was paralyzed by a truck drivers’ strike. Anfavea president Antonio Megale said that the strike, the FIFA World Cup, and uncertainty in key export markets Argentina and Mexico have challenged the sector, but he predicted that production would grow 11.9% year-on-year to 3.021m units in 2018. Megale also feted the recent announcement of a government stimulus program known as Rota 30 which aims to develop the automobile industry.
