The trouble with the police

Latin America’s police forces are not doing very well. They are often seen as ineffective, untrustworthy, and corrupt, and accused of failing to stem a wave of crime and violence. They are constantly undergoing reform, but with little apparent success. A new report by the Inter-American Dialogue and the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), ‘Police Transformation in Latin America by 2030’, looks at some of the issues that may shape policing in Latin America by 2030.
