Chile: Army embroiled in arms trafficking scandal

The commander-in-chief of Chile’s army, General Ricardo Martínez, has revealed that corrupt army officials have been selling their government-issue firearms to criminal and drug trafficking organisations. The revelations, made by Martínez during a closed-door military event but leaked to the local media, have raise serious concerns about corruption in the army and the potential infiltration of criminal elements.
