JAMAICA | Parliament votes down state of emergency. On 11 December, 20 People’s National Party (PNP) opposition members of parliament voted against the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) over the government’s proposed extension of the states of emergency (SOEs) in St James, St Catherine North, and parts of Kingston and St Andrew. The JLP’s 33 MPs all supported the extension, but that wasn’t enough to secure the required two-thirds of all 63 members.
