In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s new president, Jair Bolsonaro, has signed his first decree which guarantees a 4.61% increase of the monthly minimum wage, from R$954 (US$245.8) to R$998 (US$257.1). This is below the planned R$1,006 minimum wage that was approved as part of the 2019 federal government’s budget, which was put together by the administration of, now former president, Michel Temer (2016-1 January 2019).
