* According to figures from Paraguay’s national civil aviation authority (Dinac), Asunción’s ‘Silvio Pettirossi’ international airport registered 1.21m regular passengers in 2018 (not including in transit), up from 1.18m in 2017. In an interview with local daily ABC Color, Dinac’s director Édgar Melgarejo complained of an “important deficit in all areas, particularly in [the] aeronautical directorate, with few inspectors and a lack of security personnel”.
