* Chile’s Economy, Development, & Tourism Minister José Ramón Valente has announced that car sales reached a record high in 2018. In an official press release Valente said that sales of new light and medium vehicles reached 417,038 units last year, up 15.6% on the 360,900 cars sold in 2017. Private individuals accounted for 40% of the sales which averaged Cl$8.6m (US$12,670) a unit. The press release also cites Gustavo Castellanos, general secretary of Chile’s national car association (Anac), as saying that the dynamism of the market had been driven by "the commercial strategies of the 68 brands present in the country and the number of models and versions they have offered to the public this year".
