* Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released figures which show that year-on-year growth in the third quarter of 2018 was -14.8%. This is the latest sign of the impact of the crisis stemming from the crackdown by the administration led by President Daniel Ortega on anti-government protesters which began mid-April 2018. In its most-recent (December 2018) forecast, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) estimated -4.1% GDP growth for Nicaragua for 2018.
