In brief: Brazil

* The Planalto presidential palace has released a statement confirming that the new government led by Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro will not oppose the Boeing-Embraer merger deal. The terms of the deal, according to which US plane maker Boeing will acquire an 80% stake of its new venture with Brazilian aerospace company Embraer for US$4.2bn, were finally agreed in December 2018 after months of negotiations. But the deal is curently under review in the Brazilian courts. Following a meeting with cabinet ministers and members of the armed forces, Bolsonaro said that it was clear that the deal did not go against national interests and sovereignty, and that the government would not make use of its ‘golden share’ in Embraer to veto the merger.
