In brief: Costa Rica

* Costa Rica’s President Carlos Alvarado has announced the launch of a highway decongestion project, as part of plans to improve traffic flow and boost the economy. According to a presidential press release, Costa Rica’s state-run utility firm, Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL), has removed four electricity poles (out of an expected total of 34) in the capital San José’s Zapote district as part of the initial phase of a gradual process towards the construction of a viaduct. The viaduct will have a total length of 864m with an overpass of 550m which will speed up traffic and travel times. The construction is scheduled to be concluded in 12 months.
