In brief: El Salvador

* El Salvador’s central bank (BCR) has released new figures which show remittance inflows to the country reached US$5.46bn in 2018, up 8.4% on 2017. In the month of December 2018, US$534.2m was received in family remittances. Of the total, the US accounted for US$5.09bn, followed by Canada (US$48.8m), and Italy (US$23.4m). As regards El Salvador’s neighbours in Central America's 'Northern Triangle' remittances to Guatemala reached US$9.29bn in 2018, up 13.4%, while Honduras received US$4.88bn, up 10%.
