Red Troncal tender. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has suspended the forthcoming public tender to develop a new national wholesale fibre-optic network (‘Red Troncal’) and start “from scratch”, with new bases for the project, which could be ready by mid-February. Contracts for the project, which had been drawn up by the previous government as part of its 2013 telecommunications reform, were to be awarded in October 2018 but the deadline was extended until 15 February 2019 and has now been suspended pending review.
