* Ecuador’s largest umbrella indigenous organisation, the Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador (Conaie), has announced via twitter plans to stage “days of resistance against economic measures and the privatisation of the country’s strategic sectors”. The Conaie rejects economic measures announced late last year such as the elimination of the fuel subsidy, and it fears that the government led by President Lenín Moreno will privatise strategic sectors. Apawki Castro, one of Conaie’s leaders, stated that the organisation is in “permanent mobilisation”, with “days of resistance” planned to take place from 28-30 January.
