In brief: Chile

* According to figures from Chile’s finance ministry, Chile closed the fiscal year with a public deficit of 1.7% of GDP, – down from 2.8% in 2017 – its lowest level in four years. Finance minister Felipe Larraín stated that Chile is “experiencing significant improvements in its fiscal situation” noting that “since 2011 the deficit had been increasing, and this year (2018) we have had a fall, this is an improvement in our fiscal situation”.
