In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (IBGE) has released new data which shows that industrial production increased by 1.1% year-on-year in 2018. The result means that Brazil’s industrial production levels have now increased for two consecutive years after recording an increase of 2.5% year-on-year in 2017. However, IBGE has warned that industrial production levels started falling in the fourth quarter of 2018 as result of a fall in activity in the metallurgy and food and drinks sub-sectors.
