* Colombia’s mining & energy ministry (MinMinas) has released new figures which show that crude oil production in Colombia reached an average of 898,985 barrels a day in January, the highest level since May 2016. There was a 4.5% increase in production in comparison to January 2018, which had an average production of 860,656 barrels a day and an increase of 1.1% in relation to the average 889,352 barrels produced daily in December 2018. According to MinMinas head, María Fernanda Suárez, from January 2018 to January 2019 the number of drills in operation increased by 26% due mainly to the addition of new locations for production. Additionally, commercial production of natural gas grew by 21% in January 2019 compared with the same month in 2018, increasing from 873m cubic feet to 1.1bn cubic feet per day.
