In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s federal audit office (ASF) has published a new report in which it describes the country’s 2013-2014 energy sector reform as a “failure”. In its annual audit of public accounts 2017 report, the ASF said that three years on from the implementation of the energy reform, which opened up Mexico’s energy sector to increased private sector participation, it has failed to deliver on all of its objectives. In particular, the ASF notes that there has been an average fall of 6.2% in investment in the energy sector over the period, falling crude oil production, and a “significant” increase in petrol fuel prices for consumers.
