In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced plans to create a new free trade zone (FTZ) in Chetumal city, Quintana Roo state, on Mexico’s southern border. This follows the creation of a FTZ along Mexico’s 3,201km-long northern border with the US which was decreed in December 2018, the same month that he took office for a six-year term. As regards the specifics of the new FTZ, President López Obrador said that the government wanted to see how the one in the north was going to function before making further decisions.
