In brief: Paraguay

* In an interview with local radio ABC Cardinal, the director of Paraguay’s national civil aviation authority (Dinac), Édgar Melgarejo, said that works to expand Asunción’s 'Silvio Pettirossi' international airport should begin in 2020. Expansion plans initially outlined in 2015 are in the process of being adapted, with the aim of organising an international public tender by the end of this year, first for the design contest, and then for the construction work. The expansion plans currently contemplate the construction of a second runway and of a second terminal. Paraguay’s official information agency has clarified that the construction of a new terminal will be financed by Dinac’s own funds, and not public-private partnerships.
