Brazil: The anti-crime package: ambitious or ineffective?

President Jair Bolsonaro took office in Brazil promising to crack down on crime and corruption, and appointed Sérgio Moro, a now-former federal judge known for his crusade against corruption, as justice & public security minister to lead the charge on this. Last 19 February, Moro presented the federal chamber of deputies with a series of draft laws aimed at fighting violence, crime, and corruption. Known as the ‘anti-crime package’, these form the crux of the government’s public security agenda.
