* According to Venezuela’s national federation of cattle ranchers (FNGV) the power blackout affecting the country, which began on 7 March and still persists in some areas of the country, have cost the productive sector over US$5m in losses. According to a FNGV statement, losses to the milk sector amount to some US$1.4m with daily production estimated at just 23% of capacity while losses to the cheese sector total some US$2.8m. The statement estimates that losses to the meat industry due to the inability to keep the meat refrigerated total US$1.4m.
