* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released figures which show that month-on-month industrial production fell by 0.8% in January 2019. Capital goods production fell by 3%, the third consecutive negative result, a reflection of a decrease in the production of lorries and of agricultural and industrial machinery. In the 12 months to January 2019, Brazil’s industrial production grew 0.5%.
André Macedo, Ibge’s industrial production survey manager, attributes the results in part to businesses’ lack of confidence in the national economy’s short-term resumption of robust growth.
