In brief: Brazil

* The auction of twelve airport concessions in Brazil has generated R$2.38bn (US$623m), exceeding the government’s projected R$2.1bn. The Spanish airport services operator Aena acquired the operating rights to six airports making up the north-eastern bloc, for R$1.9bn (US$498m). Zurich Airport Latin America won the bid for the south-eastern bloc (two airports) with a R$437m (US$114m) bid, while local consortium Aeroeste will pay R$40m (US$10.5m) for the operating rights to the four airport terminals of the mid-western bloc. Brazil’s infrastructure ministry says that the 30-year concession of these twelve airports will generate a total of R$4.2bn (US$1.1bn) in income for the federal government.
