In brief: Ecuador

* The Ecuadorean government led by President Lenín Moreno and the European Union (EU) have signed two cooperation agreements. One, worth US$29m, is for the economic reactivation of Manabí and Esmeraldas provinces following the 2016 earthquake through contributing to the development of the agricultural sector’s productive capacities. The other agreement, for US$22.5m, seeks to contribute to the development of Ecuador’s northern border. The head of the EU’s Latin America development and international cooperation unit, Jorge de la Caballería, described the size of the EU’s latest contributions as historic.
