Last month a spokesperson for
Peru’s state-owned petroleum company Petroperú announced that an agreement had been reached with the indigenous Wampis community of Mayuriaga that would allow for repairs to be carried out on a pipeline in the Amazonian northeastern region of Loreto, Peru. The pipeline was damaged in late November 2018, with Petroperú reporting an oil spill of 8000 barrels, after members of the Wampis community are believed to have deliberately severed the pipe.
