In brief: Uruguay

* Statistics released about energy exports from Uruguay’s National Administration of Power Plants and Electrical Transmissions (UTE) in the first months of 2019 forecast a promising year for the state-owned company, with the company exporting 74% of the total energy sold in the region in 2018, in the first quarter of 2019. Figures published in Uruguayan newspaper El Observador show that exports to Brazil and Argentina in 2018 totalled 1,195,145 MWh, whereas exports in the same region for the months of January, February, and March 2019 are at 885,262 MWh. Sales to Argentina were strongest in January and continued at a slower rate through February and March, whereas Brazil’s sales were concentrated in February with January and March purchases being more sporadic.
