Carlos Alvarado Quesada has opened the country’s largest solar farm which is located in Pocosol district, Alajuela province. According to a government press release, with 19,000 solar panels spread across 11.2 hectares, the farm will produce 5MW of renewable energy, enough to supply 5,000 families, supplementing supplies from hydroelectric sources which can be scarce in the dry season. Responsible for the development of the ₡3.87bn (US$6.4m) project are engineers from the national electric company cooperative Consorcio Nacional de Empresas Electrificación (Conelectricas).
